YYZ to YXE
Toronto to Saskatoon Pet Relocation
We move dogs and cats from Toronto to Saskatoon on WestJet Cargo flights. We pick up your pet at home, supply the airline crate if you need one, handle the paperwork and check your pet in at Pearson.

Moving your pet to Saskatoon
Sending your pet on its own as airline cargo is the fastest way to get from Toronto to Saskatoon: about 3 to 3.5 hours in the air, instead of days in a car.
You can fly on the same day or on a different day from your pet. Some owners fly first and send their pet a day or two later, so the new home is ready. We look after everything in Toronto, and you choose who collects your pet at the airline's cargo office in Saskatoon.
We choose the flight and the timing that are easiest on your pet. Every booking depends on airline space, the time of year and the breed rules, so we confirm the flight with the airline before anything is final.

Airline rules that matter on this route
- Health certificate: WestJet needs one for some pets. We tell you if yours does and by when. See vet health certificate for flying.
- December and winter: holiday embargoes limit space in late December, and some aircraft take no pets in the coldest months. See winter and holiday embargoes.
- Breeds: snub-nosed and strong breeds have extra airline rules, and pit bull type dogs cannot travel through Pearson. See snub-nosed breeds and flying.
- Pickup on time: collect your pet as soon as it is ready. A pet not collected within 4 hours is moved to a kennel (or a vet) at your cost.

Moving to Saskatoon with a pet
Weather and the best time to move
Saskatoon has very cold winters, and on the coldest days it can drop below minus 35°C. Summers are warm and sunny, with highs that can reach 35°C. It is one of the sunniest cities in Canada.
May, June and September are usually the easiest months, with mild weather; December to February are hardest because of extreme cold, and midsummer can bring hot days.
Arriving at Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE)
Pets are collected at the airline's cargo office, not at the passenger terminal. From the airport to downtown Saskatoon is about 6 km, about 10 minutes.
Pet licence and local rules
The City of Saskatoon requires a licence for every dog and cat over four months old, within 30 days of becoming the owner. Pets must wear the licence tag on a collar when off your property.
- Outside dog parks, dogs and cats must be on their owner's property or on a leash no longer than 2 metres.
- A valid licence is needed to use any dog park, and one person can bring at most four dogs into an off-leash area.
- On Saskatoon Transit, pets must ride in a kennel or carrier unless they are service animals.
Where to walk your dog
Off-leash areas include Chief Whitecap Dog Park (south of the city, along the South Saskatchewan River), Sutherland Beach Dog Park (one of the few areas with river access for off-leash dogs), Avalon Dog Park and Hyde Park Dog Park (with a separate small dog area). Check the posted rules before you let your dog off leash.
The Meewasin Trail along the South Saskatchewan River is the best known walk, with dogs on leash where signs allow.
Dates to know in Saskatoon
- July 1: Canada Day at Diefenbaker Park. Large crowds gather all day and fireworks go off late in the evening, which can frighten pets.
- Late July to early August: Saskatoon Ex at Prairieland Park. The week-long summer fair brings crowds, traffic and late-night fireworks.
- Labour Day weekend: Nutrien Fireworks Festival at River Landing. Fireworks over the river on two nights can be heard across central neighbourhoods, and downtown traffic is heavy.
Renting with a pet in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan's official sources do not set specific pet rules for renters. Landlords can make reasonable written rules, and a security deposit is capped at one month's rent with only one deposit allowed. Ask the landlord about pets before you sign.
This is general information, not legal advice. Check your lease, and contact the Office of Residential Tenancies if you are unsure.
