YYZ to YYG
Toronto to Charlottetown Pet Relocation
We move dogs and cats from Toronto to Charlottetown on Air Canada Cargo flights. We pick up your pet at home, supply the airline crate if you need one, handle the paperwork and check your pet in at Pearson.

Moving your pet to Charlottetown
Sending your pet on its own as airline cargo is the fastest way to get from Toronto to Charlottetown: about 2 hours in the air, instead of days in a car.
You can fly on the same day or on a different day from your pet. Some owners fly first and send their pet a day or two later, so the new home is ready. We look after everything in Toronto, and you choose who collects your pet at the airline's cargo office in Charlottetown.
We choose the flight and the timing that are easiest on your pet. Every booking depends on airline space, the time of year and the breed rules, so we confirm the flight with the airline before anything is final.

Airline rules that matter on this route
- Health certificate: Air Canada needs one for every pet. We tell you the date it must be done by. See vet health certificate for flying.
- December and winter: holiday embargoes limit space in late December, and some aircraft take no pets in the coldest months. See winter and holiday embargoes.
- Breeds: snub-nosed and strong breeds have extra airline rules, and pit bull type dogs cannot travel through Pearson. See snub-nosed breeds and flying.
- Pickup on time: collect your pet as soon as it is ready. A pet not collected within 4 hours is moved to a kennel (or a vet) at your cost.

Moving to Charlottetown with a pet
Weather and the best time to move
The sea keeps Prince Edward Island's climate fairly mild, but it is often windy. Summer days are usually 20°C or warmer, and winter temperatures run from about minus 3 to minus 11°C, with wind chill that can feel like minus 25. The island averages about 290 cm of snow a year, usually from November to April.
June and September are the easiest months, with warm, settled weather and fewer crowds, while the snowy, windy months of January to March are the hardest.
Arriving at Charlottetown Airport (YYG)
Pets are collected at the airline's cargo office, not at the passenger terminal. From the airport to downtown Charlottetown is about 8 km, around 15 minutes.
Pet licence and local rules
Charlottetown's Dog Control Bylaw requires every dog to be registered with the City each year by March 31, or within 10 days of getting a dog later in the year. The dog must wear the City tag on its collar. The bylaw does not require a cat licence.
- Dogs may not run at large: outside their own property, they must be on a leash in public places.
- Dog owners must carry a bag or scoop when off their own property and pick up right away.
- Dogs are not allowed on Prince Edward Island National Park beaches from April 1 to October 15, though leashed dogs can use the park's trails.
Where to walk your dog
The off-leash area is Hillsborough Park dog park (off Acadian Drive, with separate areas for large and small dogs). Check the posted rules before you let your dog off leash.
The Victoria Park waterfront boardwalk and the Confederation Trail, which starts in Charlottetown, are both good for leashed dogs.
Dates to know in Charlottetown
- July 1: Capital City Canada Day. A big fireworks show is launched from a barge in Charlottetown Harbour at 10 p.m., which can frighten pets.
- July and August: Peak summer visitor season. Roads and the city fill up, so allow extra time.
- Mid-August: Old Home Week and the Gold Cup Parade. This week-long celebration and parade draw thousands of people into Charlottetown, with road closures and busy traffic.
- November to April: Snow season. Snowstorms can bring "snow days" when much of the island closes until roads are cleared.
Renting with a pet in Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island's tenancy law does not set specific pet rules, so landlords may set their own in the lease. Only one security deposit of up to one month's rent is allowed, so there is no separate pet deposit. Service animals are protected.
This is general information, not legal advice. Check your lease, and contact the Director of Residential Tenancy if you are unsure.
